The Personal Performance Model

This model assesses the degree to which your current tasks are imposed upon you, how well they align with your abilities, and how closely they match your desired outcomes.

Application

Each evening, over a span of three weeks, reflect on the following three questions and input your responses into the model, rating them on a scale from –

1 -> Doesn’t Apply at All

10 -> Totally Applies

Questions to Ask

  • Have To. To what degree are my current tasks obligatory or required?
  • Able To. How well do my tasks align with my skills and capabilities?
  • Want To. How closely do my current tasks align with my personal desires?

Result

Once the three weeks are done, look at your maps.

  • If your map changes constantly, then you have a good variety of tasks.
  • If your stays the same, then you need to ask yourself are you being challenge enough? Where can you improve?

Example Scenario

Imagine you rate your tasks over three weeks:

  • Have To: You consistently rate this as 8/10 because most tasks are necessary but sometimes feel burdensome.
  • Able To: Your ratings fluctuate between 6 and 9 because some tasks match well with your skills, but others are challenging.
  • Want To: You rate this consistently low at 3/10 because your tasks rarely align with your personal interests or goals.

Reflection Questions

Based on your ratings, ask yourself:

  • What tasks do you really want to focus on?
  • Are you currently able to perform those tasks effectively?
  • What skills do you have that align with what you want to do?
  • Do your current tasks align with what you truly want to achieve?
